Adventure

“The sea is dangerous and it’s storms terrible…but these obstacles have never been sufficient reason to remain ashore. Unlike the mediocre, intrepid spirits seek victory over those things which seem impossible. It is with an iron will that they embark on the most daring of all endeavors…to meet the shadowy future without fear and conquer the unknown.” – Ferdinand Magellan

I love the outdoors and try to take off when I can. Currently I’m spending a lot of time training for triathlons but as the season slows down I’ll get into more things. My favorite alternate activity these days is sailing.

I have a Catalina 25 (hull #109) named Pulling Strings. I used to race but now am outfitting her to do more cruising as I’d like to extend my range.

Diving! – I don’t have a lot to post here – it’s been a while since I dove.  I have about 300 dives and 200 hours of bottom time.  This video is from one of the most powerful experiences of my life!  The Shark Feeder Program in Freeport, Bahamas – a four-day course on feeding and handling sharks in the wild.  And yes – that’s me with the sharks.

I used to do a lot of hiking and backpacking and I will again.  I’ll find some photos from that.  In the meanwhile here’s a shot of me finishing Ironman Boulder August 2015.

BillyFinish After my bike crash in May of 2014 I spent 15 months training to do this. Swim 2.4 miles, ride 112 miles, and run a marathon – 26.2 miles. Tool me about 14 $ 1/2 hours but it was an awesome feeling.
